Key Findings
The prevalence of FGM/C among women and girls aged 15-46 in Kuwait is 38%.
The 2011 study by Rachana Chibber remains the primary source of data on the prevalence of FGM/C in Kuwait. Thus, not only are there significant gaps in the information available on FGM/C in Kuwait, but available data is extremely outdated.

FGM/C Legislation in Kuwait
Although there is no specific legislation criminalising FGM/C, Articles 160-163 of Kuwait’s Penal Code (2016) deal with various forms of physical assault and infliction of harm on another resulting in physical pain and dysfunctionality of any bodily organ. In addition Article 1 (2) of the Domestic Violence Act (No 16 of 2020) defines domestic violence as “any form of physical …. treatment or threat” against a family member, and the Rights of the Child Act (No 20 of 2015) Article 3(A) guarantees the child protection from physical ill-treatment.
