FGM/C Legislation in Bahrain

Although there is no specific legislation criminalising FGM/C, Articles 336-340 of Bahrain’s Penal Code (1976) deal with crimes of physical assault ranging in severity, and Articles 42-44 of The Child Act (Law No 37 of 2012) guarantee protection of the child against abuse or neglect, which includes harm that prevents their “proper, safe and healthy development and growth.” Further, “physical abuse” is defined as “every act which leads to intentional bodily harm to the child.”
